I had the opportunity to watch this player live a number of times of the past 2 years and I came away with a mixed bag. For me, he’s a bit of an enigma. His play varies so much not only game to game but shift to shift. The skill set on this kid is remarkable and if he had Will Bitten’s drive and compete I think he would be a top-5 player in this draft. Usually, that kind of inconsistency is a bit of a red flag but at the same time, it’s tough to argue with 79 goals in 122 games played. When he’s on and he’s driving the net, he’s really hard to stop. I think there is enough there for him to be a 1st round selection with the hope that whoever selects him are able to give him the proper development to get him to where he needs to be. I expect Gauthier to be mid first round pick, anywhere from #10 to #20 and if he maxes out his potential, it will end up being a homerun pick.
