I’m not as high on Jake Bean as many others seem to be. I like his offensive game but I’m not nearly as convinced defensively and that’s where I have an issue. There just aren’t many purely offensive defensemen in the NHL anymore. Guys who play a purely offensive game and are really lacking on the defensive side of the game generally don’t stick around too long at the NHL level. There just has to be a base there where you can say that that they are at least average defensively. Will Jake Bean reach that level in NHL? Maybe…maybe not.

At this point in the draft though, teams can take a chance that he will continue to develop and round out the rest of his game and become a fantastic pick 3-4 years down the line. He seems like a really good kid, I hope he reaches his full potential.
