There is way too much skill and a solid all-around package for Martin Necas not to have heard his named called early come draft day. But for me, there is still a good amount of risk that goes along with selecting this player. I see him as a boom or bust kind of player. He’s highly skilled but if worse comes to worse would he still be able to adapt his game for a 3rd line role? I’m not convinced he’s the type of player who could or would easily do that. Even so, Necas is a very smooth and strong skater and he stands out in that regard whenever he steps onto the ice. Make no mistake, this is an offensive player whos’ main focus is creating scoring opportunities for either himself or his teammates.

He seemed visibly frustrated at the U18 tournament as things didn’t go his way but to me that seemed more like an overall chemistry issue rather than anything else. My comparable for him is David Pastrnak and I believe that if Necas lives up to his potential, that’s the type of player he could become.
