UPSIDE : Middle Pairing Two-Way D-Man
FLOOR : Bottom Pairing D-Man

 

Adam Foote’s oldest of two boys playing on the Kelowna Rockets, Cal Foote is a huge kid with good, two-way upside. He doesn’t really play the game the way his dad used to as he has much more offensive capabilities and an offensive mind-set. I think he’s probably well-rounded in all aspects of the game but will end up more of a two-way D-man than a defensive stalwart. He makes good reads and anticipates well and is a solid defender who can log a lot of minutes. He also gets pucks through and understands that sometimes the big slapper isn’t always the best option and a well-placed wrister can lead to rebounds and offensive chances.

As far as top upside goes, I don’t think I see a top pairing guy but more of a middle pairing player like his comparable David Savard, if all goes well. He will definitely need to improve his skating (acceleration and top speed) as it’s probably a notch below where it should be but if he’s anything like his dad, he’ll make sure he gets it up to where it needs to be.
