I think as long as you’re not expecting too much out of a player like Nicholas Hague and can see the value in the kind of player he is then you’re going to be happy with this selection. Hague is a huge kid at 6’6″ and while they say “you can’t teach size”, there is a lot to like about the way this guy plays the game. He’s a good skater, makes a great first pass, makes ‘the safe play’ the majority of the time but he’s probably not going to put up a ton of points at the NHL level. He has an offensive game but I don’t expect him to become a big point-producer.

From my perspective, Hague is a lot like Matthias Ekholm and plays a solid, defense-first game and anything else on top of that is gravy. My top upside for Hague is that he can become a very good middle pairing defensive defenceman and I think he has the potential to get there. With this player in particular, I believe he has a high floor and will become at least a bottom pairing guy and that’s where the value is for me.
