Alexei Lipanov is a good all-around player. He’s a really smooth-skating, smart player with good anticipation that can play in all situations. He’s a hard worker and an excellent playmaker. What’s wrong with that? Nothing but if it wasn’t for the Russian Factor, I’d probably rate this player higher. Unfortunately, teams will have to estimate the risk and make the appropriate call with this player.
His comparable is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as they both have the same kind of skating style and are both tremendous playmakers but I’m not convinced Lipanov will reach that level. I think there will be a team that will probably take him in the 2nd round. A high- risk, high-reward type of prospect.
