COMPARABLE : Josh Gorges
UPSIDE : Bottom Pairing Defensive D-Man
FLOOR : AHL Call-Up

I’ve had the opportunity to watch Antoine Crête-Belzile up-close for a few years now and there is just nothing flashy about this player, just solid defensive play. There is something to be said about making the simple little plays instead of going for low percentage, risky ones. Crête-Belzile has good defensive awareness, makes a good first pass and he’s no speedster but he’s a fine skater. He has average size but he’s stocky and I think once he fills out a bit he’ll be a more effective player.

Unfortunately, injuries have somewhat slowed down his development but hopefully that’s all behind him now. My comparable for him is Josh Gorges and I think he’s that type of d-man who plays a safe and dependable game.

Pretty good value for a 3rd round pick.
