COMPARABLE : Ron Hainsey
UPSIDE : Bottom Pairing Defensive D-Man

While I don’t usually take a lot of stock into a what a stat like ‘plus/minus’ might have to say about a particular player, in this case it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb when you look at Jocktan Chainey and his -25 (in 55 games) as compared to the best on that Halifax Club (Nico Hischier +20).

Having said all that, for me there is still something about this player that leads me to believe that he could be an NHL player someday. What I like most about Jocktan Chainey is the fact that he plays within his means. He doesn’t try to force plays or try to do too much. More often than not, he makes the simplest play and it’s what’s needed in that situation. At the U18 tournament, he was able to play that way and he kind of reminded me of Ron Hainsey.

I fully expect him to be a much later pick in this year’s draft but I think he has an outside shot at becoming a bottom pairing defensive d-man
