Clayton Phillips is a great skater, a very good puck mover and a kid who flags to me as a two-way depth defender at the NHL level. He’s a creative and smart player who can make a real good first pass out of the zone. I believe Clayton Phillips is at the very beginning of his development and the best is yet to come with this player as he is one of the youngest players in this year’s draft, Phillips won’t turn 18 until September 9th.

He is committed to the University of Minnesota next year is where he’ll continue his development. I compare Phillips to John-Michael Liles as I find they have similar skating styles. He’s going to have to put on some weight and get stronger to be truly effective at the next level. I think he would be a solid pick-up in the 3rd round.

(Edit – He’s set to play for the University of Minnesota starting in 2018-19 – THP)
