COMPARABLE : Mike Hoffman
UPSIDE : 3rd Line Offensive Forward
FLOOR : AHL Call-up

Like his comparable Mike Hoffman, Kevin Hancock is a late bloomer. Hoffman was selected in the 2009 draft as a 5th round pick as a 19 year old player who had been passed over the year before. Hancock put up modest numbers last year playing for Owen Sound only registering 28 points in his first full season in the OHL and was passed over in last year’s draft. This season has been a different story as he’s exploded for 30 goals and 85 points in 68 games. Now part of that is certainly opportunity and linemates but I think he’s earned it with his play.

Hancock is a smart player with good offensive awareness. He’s a good skater with a quick stride and has breakaway speed. He’s dangerous off the rush. He competes hard as well and gives a noticeable second effort. He will probably have to work on other parts of his game, like his positioning and play away from the puck but nothing major stands out for me in that regard. I think this is a good value pick in the 3rd round…if he continues to progress and improve; he could be a steal just like Mike Hoffman.
