Aarne Talvitie is a player who projects to be a two-way center in the pro ranks. He was captain for Team Finland at the Under 18 tournament back in April where he put up 7 points in 7 games played. While it’s nice that he was able to be productive, I think his calling card is more of a two-way player with high defensive awareness. I think that without question, he’s going to need to work on his skating and more specifically his first few steps/ acceleration. He has a pretty good top gear already.

Overall this is a smart player who can play with top players and probably fill-in anywhere in your top-9 but to me flags as one of those solid, defensively responsible 3rd line centers. I think Talvitie compares well to a player like Chris Kelly who also took some time and gradually got better to become one of the best defensive players in the league there for some time. Talvitie’s development will continue next fall for the Penn State Nittany Lions.

(Edit – He’s set to play for Penn State starting in 2018-19 – THP)
