So when I started hearing from various sources that there was a strong chance that Logan Brown was going to be a top 10 pick at this year’s draft, that certainly made me raise my eyebrows. So I went back to watch some tape to make sure I didn’t miss anything. For me, it’s always been “well, who is this guy? Keith Primeau or Brian Boyle?”. Well perhaps that’s the wrong question. I watched him carefully and while he doesn’t have the same type of abilities that Keith Primeau had to carry the puck up the ice and take the play to the other team, he’s certainly got more offensive skill than a guy like Bryan Boyle.

Brown is a monster on the cycle, he can make solid plays and setup his teammates, he’s got good speed and size and he’s real strong on the puck. I heard comparisons recently to Joe Thornton and I think that’s a pretty big stretch. I don’t see him having that kind of creativity as a playmaker. He’s more of a north-south guy who can put up points all the while playing a solid defensive game as well. He reminds me of Jordan Staal in that way but I’m not convinced he’ll be as good…probably just a notch under which is still really good. He’s also a player who can easily adapt his game to play a 3rd line role if he needs to so when you consider all of that, there’s a lot of value there. I have him just outside the top-10 but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team reached up and got him early.
