I was able to watch MacKinnon play live in the Q as a 16 year old for Halifax. Even back then it was really easy to tell that he was a special talent, his skating and puckhandling were miles ahead of the competition. The thing that I thought was holding him back at that time was that he wasn’t using his teammates to their full potential and trying to do too much on his own. I was starting to think that once drafted into the NHL, he’d get converted from center to winger much like Phil Kessel and Tyler Seguin have been but he’s matured quite a bit since that time and truly has become a two-way force.

NHL COMPARABLE: Steven Stamkos

UPSIDE: Franchise Center
