Cale Fleury Scouting Report:

This is my scouting report on Kootenay Ice defenceman Cale Fleury. When you play on the worst team in the WHL, I think there is a tendency to get overlooked and sometimes it’s tough to look good. Carolina Hurricanes 1st rounder Haydn Fleury’s little brother Cale didn’t have much help this season. The Kootenay Ice captain is one of the most underrated players in this year’s draft.

Fleury is a fluid skater that moves the puck very well and he has excellent offensive & defensive awareness. He is a strong two-way player with good anticipation and an excellent passer. A hard worker that gives a consistent second effort. This is the type of player that I would definitely want on my team and the more I watch him play, the more I like him. Easily one of my favourites in the 2017 NHL Draft.

My comparable for him is Matt Dumba and I see him as that type of player. Just like with Dumba, it’s going to take some development time for him to get to where he needs to be but I think he’ll get there. In fact, I’ll be really surprised if this guy doesn’t become a really good player.

I expect Fleury to be taken somewhere in the second round but some smart team will jump on him early.
