Antoine Morand is a great skater and a shifty player who competes hard and has a high Hockey IQ. He is highly skilled and can dangle with the best of them. Morand is highly creative and sees the ice extremely well. He’s able to identify and get into the right areas to score or setup teammates. He played center last season for the Acadie Bathurst Titan in the QMJHL but at 5’10” and 175lbs I think odds are good that he ends up playing wing if and when he makes it to the NHL. I really like this player and in the viewings I had, he took his role as the teams’ best center seriously and gave solid, consistent efforts at both ends of the ice. I think his defensive game still needs work which isn’t unusual for an offensive player that age.

For his comparable, I’m going old school again with Alex Tanguay as I see many similarities in both players. Tanguay was also a center with Halifax way back when, he also put up over a point per game his draft year, was somewhat undersized and had defensive deficiencies. I see Antoine Morand as a bit of a gamble as I’m not convinced he can adapt his game to play on a 3rd or 4th line if he’s unable to crack a Top-6 at the NHL level.

So he’s kind of a boom or bust prospect but he could be a real steal though. I really like him and he’s one of my favourites, I think he’s going to be a player.
