FLOOR : 4th Line Winger

Isaac Ratcliffe is a huge winger that plays a skill game. I think he’s the kind of player that will definitely engage physically and he’ll go into the areas needed to score…he’s by no means a perimeter player but I think those hoping he fills-out and becomes a bonafide power forward will end up disappointed.

I don’t see a lot of ‘sandpaper’ in his game but that doesn’t mean he won’t end up a good NHL player. Ratcliffe didn’t have much help last season playing on a poor Guelph team…so there is that but on the other hand, it provided a great opportunity for him to showcase himself with lots of ice time and being a go-to player. I liked his game at the U18 tournament but Ratcliffe is a bit of a wild card for me. He’s got all the tools but is that all going to come together at the pro level?

My comparable for him is Benoit Pouliot because he was also a huge kid with a bit of a slow stride and I think there are similarities between the two in the way they play. I think there will be a team that will select him early (between #15 and #30) as the projection with this player will be too attractive too pass up but I’m not convinced it’s the right call. I am far from certain he has Top-6 upside but I do think there’s a very good chance he ends up an NHL player in some capacity. Good value for middle of the second round.
