Jake Leschyshyn is the son of one of my favourites back in the day, defenceman Curtis Leschyshyn. Unlike his dad, Jake is a forward and a pretty good one at that. He’s got speed to burn, is an effective forechecker and he’s also versatile as he can play center or wing. He’s feisty and has a quick stride with good top end speed with a constant motor. Leschyshyn played on a high-powered Regina Pats team until a knee injury ended his season. Up until that point, he had put up some pretty nice numbers almost a point-per-game.

I would be surprised if his offense translated over to the NHL and I believe that it’s a more likely scenario that he ends up developing as a very good 3rd line forward much like his comparable Casey Cizikas. That’s who he reminds me of with his play. Like Cizikas, Jake Leschyshyn is a defensively responsible player who can certainly chip in offensively but is known more for his all-around game and usefulness as a solid utility player.
