COMPARABLE : Pekka Rinne
UPSIDE : NHL Starting Goaltender
FLOOR : NHL Backup Goaltender

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (geez, let’s just call him UPL) is a really tall and technically sound goaltender. It’s no secret that scouts have been salivating at getting their hands on this kid for quite some time now after playing so well as an underage goaltender at the U18 tournament in 2016.

He was part of Finland’s team again at that very same tournament this year and while I thought he was still impressive, I think a lot of people maybe expected more. I think the fact that Finland ended up with a silver medal in that tournament had a lot more to do with the US having their ‘annual chemistry advantage’ rather than a poor performance by UPL.

My comparable for him is Pekka Rinne for obvious reasons…they are both Finnish and they are both giants. I think there’s a chance he could go late 1st round but I have him in the later part of the 2nd round and I think that’s great value at that spot.
