I’ve watched Matthew Tkachuk for a long time and it’s been quite clear for me since seeing him play as a 16 year old at the U-18 tournament last year that this kid had all the talent to be a top-10 pick in 2016. I will say that when players play on a powerhouse team like the London Knights, sometimes it’s more difficult to get an accurate read on where they are at development-wise. Would they be doing as well if they were on a struggling club? It’s fortunate that I got to see him play at the World Junior tournament as well where he not only proved he belonged but was a key player for the US at such a young age. He doesn’t play exactly like his dad though there is some resemblance in skating style. Matthew is more of a playmaker and his dad was more of a sniper. While he’s not an excellent skater, he still gets there and I do not believe it will hold him back at all. A solid pick in the top-10 all that remains to be seen is if he’s ready to make the jump next year.
