#50 – Alex DeBrincat, RW – Erie, OHL

TSN – #33
Central Scouting – #21 NAS
ISS – #26
Craig Button – #21
McKeens – #37
THN – #24

POTENTIAL : Top-9 Scoring Winger
CEILING: 3rd Line RW
FLOOR: NHL Call-up / AHL All-Star

I’m usually a guy who will cheer for the underdog and while I can appreciate all that DeBrincat has been able to accomplish at the junior level, I am far from convinced that his game will translate over to the NHL. It’s tough to argue with 102 goals and 205 points in 128 games played with Erie but he also did benefit from playing with some really good teams.

My comparable for him is Cam Atkinson because of the obvious size similarities although they don’t play the same style of game where Atkinson is more of a drive the net, attack with speed off the rush sort of player and DeBrincat is deadly when he gets into the right lanes and scoring areas.

In the end, I think he’ll end up at worst a 3rd round pick…maybe somewhere in the late 2nd round…any higher and it’s a reach, in my opinion. I hope I’m wrong though because I love seeing guys like this defy the odds.
