Ivan Chekhovich is a fun prospect to watch and one of my favourites in this year’s draft. I really like the way this player thinks and plays the game. It seems that every time he’s on the ice, he’s making something happen offensively. He has great straightaway speed with an excellent top gear and makes plays at high speeds. He’s a player who is difficult to contain and will fight through checks.

He seems more comfortable at center but is versatile and can also play wing. He reminds me of Artturi Lehkonen during his draft year. I wrote back then that he was the type of player that goes a bit unnoticed but at the end of the game you look at the scoresheet and he’s got 3 points. I ranked Lehkonen just outside the first round (#32) and he was drafted 55th by Montreal and it seems to have worked out.

For sure, there is the Russian Factor to consider but at least this player is already playing hockey in North America. A good bet to be selected in the 2nd/3rd round.
