COMPARABLE : Andrew Cogliano
UPSIDE : Top-9 Offensive Forward
FLOOR : SHL Regular
Jesper Boqvist is a highly-skilled, quick and shifty player with a high hockey IQ. To me he is a risky pick because I don’t see him making the NHL as a 3rd or 4th line guy so I feel it’s very much a ‘top-6 or Europe’ type of situation with this player. He’s a great skater, skilled playmaker with exceptional puck control but he really needs to shore up the defensive part of his game to have any chance at a career in North America.
My comparable for him is Andrew Cogliano a player with a ton of speed that needed to shore up the defensive part of his game to become a mainstay at the NHL level. I see Boqvist pretty much like that. Cogliano was able to adapt his game to play on a 3rd line…I’m not convinced Boqvist would be able to do the same.
This is pretty much a boom or bust kind of pick but you never know, sometimes guys get the right kind of coaching and things just end up clicking.
