Lucas Elvenes is a good skater with a quick stride who works and competes hard. I find that he is especially proficient down-low playing a cycle game…he’s quite good at that. He’s a smart player who knows how to get open to get the puck to create a play although he doesn’t always do it. I think he probably needs to be more consistent. A few times I watched him complete a difficult pass but he didn’t follow-up on the play as needed. It wouldn’t be the first time a young player has consistency issues but I do wonder with this player if he has Top-6 talent or if he’s more of a 3rd liner who can chip-in offensively.

I do like him though, he’ll actually win his fair share of board battles. In the end, I think if he develops he’s probably a tweener who will spend his time between the 2nd and 3rd lines.

My comparable for him is Lars Eller who was one of my favourites coming out of the 2007 draft. It’s never really worked out for Eller as a Top-6 guy though I still really like him as a player. I think Elvenes can possibly turn out like that, if all goes well.
