COMPARABLE : Luke Schenn
UPSIDE : Bottom Pairing Defensive D-Man
FLOOR : AHL Call-up

At 6’3 and 220lbs, Luke Martin has the ideal size to play on the back-end in the NHL. He’s not the most fleet-footed guy out there but I think he gets to where he needs to go. For me, a guy like Luke Martin compares well to another ‘Luke’…Luke Schenn. I think they play the same type of game. He’s a big-bodied, defensive d-man who is a decent puck mover but I don’t see much in the ways of offensive contributions. He’s a player who will engage physically but won’t go out of his way to throw a big hit.

When it’s all said and done, I think a team wanting to beef-up their defensive depth will take him and late 3rd round should be good value.
